Sunday was “no-car” day in Brussels. From 9am to 7pm you cannot drive cars on any roads inside the city of Brussels. Public transport is free and anyone can ride, roll, stroll or skateboard their way down usually vehicle-packed highways. It was an awesome experience walking to the bus stop and seeing families whizzing down the middle of the street on their bikes. Restaurants set up street café’s and others picnicked on Boulevards. Walking downtown was a bit like the movie “I Am Legend.” The streets were deserted, cars sat unused on the side of the road, normal city sounds vanished…. Wow, it was a weird feeling being next to skyscrapers and enjoying complete silence apart from the whoosh, whoosh of the occasional bike. The only downside was that it took us about 1.5 hours, 2 buses, 1 metro, and a ride from a church member to get us to church.
